In Response To: casket letters (David Caldwell)

: The long [second] casket letter
: includes a reference to a "Laird" [the
: Scottish term for a landholder, especially one who
: holds land directly of the crown] of Lusse [Lus],
: Howstoun [Houston], and Caldwellis sone [son]."
: Can anyone tell me more who this Caldwellis was?
Thats interesting and new to me. Houston is in Renfrew not far from Paisley and I have heard of "Lus" but don't know where it is. Perhaps if you could enlarge on the details of the reference. I don't think the party that Caldwell's in general adhered to were particularly sympathetic to Mary QofS.
