William Caldwell of Lochirmoss, on 11 Dec 1601 was part of a large party of armed men who moved from Ayr towards Maybole hoping to meet and fight the Earl of Cassilis, John Kennedy. They shot John Speris, the
master of the Earls household and sundry others and were denounced as rebels on 4th Feb 1602
Andrew Cauldwoll, a hagbutter [carried a long gun] was in the Earl of Cassilis band in the above incident
