In his book, On the Trail of William Wallace, David Ross states that there are no contemporaneous historical documents showing the birthplace of William Wallace. Ross states that the earliest accounts of William's Wallace's life derive from Blind Harry's poem about Wiliam Wallace. That poem can be found online. Ross discusses stories of Wallace being born in either Ayrshire or Renfrewshire. There is a legend of his being born in Renfrewshire but raised as a youth in Ayrshire. He was trained for the priesthood and therefore may have been educated at Paisely Abbey in Renfrewshire.
