:I think you are probably right in "you were wrong" about Coodham and Cowdams not being the same place. The Mure/Moore family tree definitely says that the second son of Sir Reginald Mure (Lord High Chamberlain of Scotland 1329)was styled "Gilchrist of Cowdams" when he married the Heiress of Caldwell and his Gr.grandson John Mure 1430 is styled Sir John Mure of Cowdams & Caldwell when he married Elizabeth Lindsay of Dunrod near Largs in 1446.
But "The Statistical Account of Ayrshire" printed 1842 by "The Ministers of the Respective Parishes" (who would not tell a lie) makes no mention of it at all,which makes me think it wasn't the Coodham where I used to gather chestnuts as a boy. David
