Scottish ancestry lookups

Have you ever tried Graham Maxwell's scot ancestry research, http://website.lineone.net/~family.history/index.htm. Let us whether you were satisfied or dissatisfied. Perhaps you have found some other researcher that you can recommend. One of the most common questions on this website is whether anyone has any information on the names of the parents of some ancestor.

Here are excerpts from http://website.lineone.net/~family.history/lookups.htm

Scottish Birth, Marriage or Death Certificates
I will search for any birth, marriage or death certificate from the Scottish records and give you all the information written on it, either by e-mail or ordinary mail. The charge for this service is £4.00 per certificate, provided you have reasonably sufficient information to locate the entry. If you are in doubt as to how much information is needed, please contact me. If you have the exact district numbers and entry numbers (as given on the "Origins" site), or you can provide exact date and district name (as provided on the Familysearch IGI site), please send these as they will aid in locating your entry. Unofficial Register House photocopies of an entry are available before 1899 for births and marriages, and before 1923 for deaths. The cost for these is £2.50 extra per entry. Certified copies are also available for any year—these are £10.00 extra. Please enquire about larger orders, as discounts are available.

Church of Scotland Old Parish Registers
To search for entries that have been located in indexes (ie. IGI, OPR index or "Scottish Church Records" CD-ROM), I charge £4.00 per entry. This gives a typed transcription of the full wording of the original entry. Photocopies can be done for many OPRs (please enquire though for availability) and cost £2.00 per entry extra. If you need the entries located beforehand, please contact me and I will let you know if any extra cost may be involved.

Other Parish Registers
These include Catholic, Free Church and other Presbyterian churches than the Church of Scotland, and other non-conformist churches. These are mainly held at the National Archives of Scotland. For a search for an individual in a named parish register within a given 5 year spell, together with a full transcription of the entry if located, I would charge £5.00 per entry. Please enquire about discounts for multiple entries, as well as photocopies.

Kirk Sessions
These records were kept by the Church of Scotland and other Presbyterian churches. They often were mainly concerned during the 18th and 19th centuries with cases of illegitimate birth and determining the identity of the father of the child. Please enquire about a search in the kirk session records of a particular parish.

Census Returns (1841 - 1891)
I can search the 1841, 51, 61 and 71 censuses for Scotland. These are largely unindexed (except for some limited areas, mainly in 1851). Therefore I would be willing to search for entries with addresses for £6.00 per entry. If you have no address information, I am willing to search country parishes or small towns for £15.00 (£6.00 for a parish which is indexed in the year selected).
I can search the 1881 census for all of Great Britain on CD-ROM for £2.00 per entry, data presented as found on the CD-ROM.
I can search the 1891 census (indexed) for Scotland given sufficient information (enquire for details) for a specific entry—this will cost £6.00 per entry.

Monument Inscriptions
Published and unpublished transcriptions are available for many churchyards. I will search for and transcribe an entry in these transcriptions for £6.00 per entry.

GRO (England and Wales) Indexes
I can search for and locate an index entry, given sufficient information (please enquire for details), within a 2 year span, for £6.00. For a 5 year search, I would charge £10.00. If you wish a certificate extract ordered, I will order it from the relevant local registrar and forward it to you for the extra sum of £10.00.

Testaments
I will search for a testament in Scotland given an approximate year of death for £6.00. If I locate the entry, I can get it photocopied (restrictions on fragile documents sometimes apply) for approximately £1.00 per page (I can report on document length before proceeding if required).

Other legal documents
Searches in the Register of Sasines, Register of Deeds, Retours, and other legal documents are available. Please enquire for details.. Please enquire for details.
