: As I understand it: 1st Son after Father's Father
: 2nd Son after Mother's Father
: 3rd Son after Father
: 4th Son after Fathers eldest Brother
: 5th Son after Mothers eldest Brother
: etc
: Daughters similarly
: The first three are pretty reliable, sometimes the
: grandparents were brought in as well.
: You can see the pattern in our family

I've seen it off and on in my family, with my uncle being the most recent. It seems to run more to second names, which have often taken on the mothers maiden name, or sometimes the father's mother's maiden name.

My uncle, for example, was Robert Edward - Edward being his father. My cousins are named Thomas Edward, Scott Robert, and David James. Edward was Thomas' grandfather, although Thomas was also the name of his mother's father.

Robert was Scott's father, and James was David's great grandfather.

Neither my father or myself are named for anyone that I can see. look around

My grandfather, Edward, had his second name as his mother's maiden name of Berry, e.g. Edward Berry. His brother, James Lennon, was a Junior, although his grandfather was also of the same first name, he had a different second name, which left my father's cousin as James Lennon III.

I'm missing data on some of the wives parents for any comparison.

The James who was my great great grandfather, and the father of James Lennon I, father and grandfather were both John, and Joseph was the father of the latter. The John, son of Joseph carries the initial, "T", and was the third son and youngest of eight.

A passing thought had me curious as to if the "T" could be for his grandfather or great grandfather, and perhaps a clue to the parentage of Joseph.

Joseph's first son, born when his wife was 14/15, was Robert, second son, Joseph, and John T. third.

John T's first born son was named, John, and I believe it was his second son named, Joseph. Interesting to note that there was 25 years between the first born, which was a son, and the last born, also a son. Out of thirteen children, most of them sons, and with the "usual" Caldwell names like George, William, and Samuel.
