Hi,
Pat Anderson has given me your address and I understand you are interested in all things relating to Caldwell.
I live in Caldwell House in Caldwell in North Yorkshire.
I have only been here since 1994 and although the house was renamed in the 1950's some of the older residents still refer to it as School House.
It was indeed the house of the heads of the village school from about 1850 until some time in the 1930's when it was closed due to a lack of pupils.Reference is made to it in the section relating to Caldwell Township in the GENUKI web site relating to 1890.(www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Stanwicksaintjohn).
However the references relating to 1823 are perhaps of more interest to you.
Here, Caldwell is referred to as follows:
'This has been a very considerable place and of great antiquity'and there is reference to Leland who said...'There appere ruines of buildinges at Cawdewelle village' and' Cawdewelle is so caullid from a little font or spring, by the ruines of the olde place.'
Leland I understand was Henry V111's librarian who toured England and wrote about his travels.
I have done some research on the owners of the Caldwell Estate and I attach the following.

I do not claim them to be historically accurate and there are lots of question marks.
One of these days I will do some proper research!
Hope they are of some interest.
Kind Regards
