David, I followed your suggestion and went to Randy's site( which I have gone to before) and in the 10th GENERATION he ists ANDREW CALDWELL m. MARTHA ANN STEWART (here we go again) their children: Anddrew b. 1722, David b. 1725 John b.1736 and Alexander b. 1735

Once again confusion reigns! I think it is too big a problem for me to figure out!Probably, we need to find documentation in Scotland/Ulster/Ireland for the ANDREW WHO MARRIED MARTHA...and that may never happen if as you seem to think they did not marry in a church.

The problem with dates is that unless you have documentation of a birth, (birth certificate or register)marriage (license, newspaper notice,family Bible, etc)death (certificate, newsnotice,family Bible etc) then you really don't have CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE of their even existing!!

I just do NOT WANT TO PERPETUATE MISINFORMATION ....this genealogy thing is tricky....ya repeat it enough in enough different places it seems to take on a "truth" of its own and becomes "fact" without any evidence whatsoever to prove it!

Another strange thing is that you cannot even rely on older information....you would think those CLOSER IN TIME TO THE GENERATION YOU ARE RESEARCHING would be accurate since their memory of events was closer at hand...but no, even they pass on misinformation

For now, I just see this as a big puzzle I cannot put together......David Caldwell and Rachel are truly interesting and led wonderfully full lives. Their stories are exciting and having them for "Kin" would be great....but if they are shrouded in too much mystery for me to figure out...then I will leave them out of my lineage until I find something substantial to link them to my line.

Who knows, enough people plowing the field might turn something conclusive up for us all to grasp.
