Ayrshire "kings"

Cunninghame is supposed to mean "King's Home"
The village of Dalry in Cunninghame means "King's valley" and Kyle is named after "King Coilus" or the same "King Cole" of the nursery rhyme.
The districts of Ayrshire possibly represented sub-kingdoms (or clans) of Strathclyde.
I don't think Strathclyde had any written history - or if it did, it was destroyed (possibly by the Normanisation or the Anglian overlordship).
Was Strathclyde subject to genocide at the time of the Anglian invsion from Northumberland? This might explain the adoption of English as the tongue of the region and of the Lothians. The Picts had nothing written either so perhaps the culture and language died because it was entirely oral and replaced by the sturdy English language which was written and cultivated.
