Reach for the Stars
By:Dean Jackson
Date: 15:08 4/17/02

We started humbly, naming ourselves after the community well. Then we expanded our reach, using Caldwell to designate Estates, counties, and even a nation. But I never dreamed that we would be in heaven. Using the key words, "Caldwell" and Objects" I affirmed what I had just run across by chance, that astronomers use The Caldwell Catalogue that contains a list of 109 celestial objects covering both hemispheres, Caldwell 1 through 109. Astronomer Patrick Caldwell Moore compiled the list. Because another astronomer, Messier, had prepared a list of what he designated the 'M' objects, Patrick Moore chose his middle name Caldwell to designate the 'C' objects.
