In Response To: Murray, Moray, Mure, "Moo-ray" (Tom Caldwell)

Hi Tom, My parents are in their 80s so they cannot be much help. I'm going to Largs next January so I'll scout around the Braes and the local libraries for old maps etc.
My Caldwell lot came to Scotland from Ireland in the 1840s. Interestingly, in the 22 years I lived in Scotland I only met one other Caldwell. It was not a common name. Also, being a minor student of linquistics in my youth, I found it interesting that the English had great difficulty pronoucing my name. I got Caudwell, Coldwell, Cladwell etc and found the same here in Canada. To my delight I had no such problems in the Eastern US seaboard, particluarly in the Carolinas.

Brian
