Okay, first of all Caldwells were NOT French Huguenots. I suppose that I could go into it in depth here, but I already have if anyone cares to read about it under the "Myths" section. Huguenots in the USA in the late 1800s and early 1900s claimed many many many different families as Huguenots - even in the face of contrary evidence. Almost like recruiting for their society???? Any Caldwell who claims lineage to the "Cub Creek John" bunch are in NO WAY descendants from French Huguenots!!!! Did anyone every bother to conclude that maybe one of the reasons that this society doesn't help with genealogical ancestry is because if the truth came out they'd lose better than half of the members that they bullshitted dues from? Ya know, I really must say that I am very disappointed in many USA Caldwell researchers. For some, research is more work than trying to defend bullshit stories. Let's just think about this for a minute - Plunkett, living in Ireland, does fantastic research complete with source documentation. Now, instead of accepting the facts that Plunkett puts forth, some take obscure theories and present them with indignance as though those theories might alter the facts of printed records. If it hasn't happened on this forum (yet), I've seen it played out on other forums with other players. From my own research (and printed on this site - if it's not too much trouble to look): "What I do find very interesting is that Dr. Orra E. Monnette acted as chairman of a meeting of Huguenot descendants which was held in California on Sunday, March 3, 1935, stating that the purpose of the Society was to be an organization of Huguenot descendants to enable them to become better acquainted and to cultivate a happy Christian fellowship with each other, as well as to extend the great principles of political and religious liberty for which the Huguenots had always stood. Something that strikes me as interesting is the overwelming number of Orra Monnette genealogies with Huguenot ancestory. Actually, just about every genealogy conducted by Monnette contains Huguenots. Was Monnette primarily focused on finding Huguenots, or creating them? The story of French Huguenots in the line of Cub Creek John Caldwell is a stretch, to say the least." And there is more data regarding French Huguenots migration to Ireland during the Plantations - not at the beginning of the Plantations, as were Caldwells, but after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. There is this little thing called time and space that just doesn't seem to be very relevant in the Narcistic societies of instant gratification that we seem to be living in today. Okay, so I'm a little moody since I'm attempting to quit smoking....
