Date: 19:49 2/22/02 Hopefully, someone who reads this forum can help me with my Caldwell line. This is what I know, pretty much for sure. My Robert Caldwell was born in 1819. He has a sister Sarah who marries an Anderson Truitt. They are both listed as born in Pennsylvania. They both list their parents as born in Pennsylvania. Robert's daughter, Sarah Caldwell Snyder, of Armstrong County, lists her father as born in Jefferson, PA. No other verification for that. I don't know whether that is a town or county. My Robert marries first a Matilda Smith and they are listed in Duquesne, Allegheny County, PA for the 1850 census. Robert then marris Nancy Boleman and is listed with her on the 1860 Duquesne, Allegheny County, PA census. On the 1870 and 1880 census he is listed with Nancy on the Bell Township, Westmoreland County, PA census. He is not to be found in 1900 in Bell. He is listed either as a carpenter or ship carpenter on most censuses. Now for the hearsay that I haven't been able to prove. He is of Irish descent; his father's name and possibly his grandfather's name are Robert; the name was changed from Colwell. I have a wonderful photo of him that I obtained from a Ruth Logan Caldwell. She was married to a great grandson of Robert. She has since passed away, and since I live in California, I haven't been able to contact another Caldwell in PA. I hope someone has some hints. Messages In This Thread
