Hi, everyone. It has been over a year and a half since I have been on here and I wanted to update my research.

*Below is my previous post.* I am still looking for information on Daniel J. Caldwell.
I have found what I think to be Daniel's parents, John Caldwell b. 1761 d. 1850 in Appomattox, VA and Martha Patsy Fields b. 1765 d.1850. John and Martha were married Nov 12, 1802.
John's father is Samuel Caldwell. Martha's Mother is Marget Fields, her father may be Andrew Fields b. Jan 1751 d.1794 in Campbell, VA.
Thanks for any information you can share.

***Prior Message update Charles Woodson is Martha Woodson's father.***

I am still looking for more information on Daniel J. Caldwell b. 1808 Virginia. m. Martha Woodson 1830 Farmville, VA. m. Elizabeth (Rysinger) Starr 1842 in Floyd County, Indiana.
I am stuck at Daniel and cannot find anything more about Martha Woodson other than her and Daniel had 4 children, William Caldwell b. 1830 probably in Prince Edward County, VA. Daniel and Eizabeth's Family is well documented. Any help is welcome. Thanks.*

I would be happy to share any information I have.

Hello from Ohio, My Caldwell history started with my grand uncle Ernie Caldwell of Sangamon Co IL. His work was back in the days of snail mail. In my pursuit of extending his work, I have read extensively about Dr Charles Caldwell 1772 NC - 1853 Louisville KY. I was looking for mention of him on this website. He wrote an autobiography/book that was fascinating. He was an important person in history and he and his brothers all served in the Rev War. Because of his young age at the time, he states in his autobiography "too young for battle" and was a standard bearer. This Dr Charles Caldwell also wrote of an Uncle David who did extensive research on the family's history. I would love to know if anyone has access to his (David) findings. Perhaps I need to make a trip to Louisville. Also my father was a great musician in Chicago area, playing with Jimmy Blade's Orchestra at the Chicago Drake Hotel. I am in the process of typing up a timeline of his life. He grew up in a single parent home from age 3 and endured polio at age 16 during that epidemic. He successfully raised 7 children and played accordion from age 7 to age 88. I appreciate all the work on caldwellgenealogy.com.

I recently tracked my genealogy back to Alexander Thomas Caldwell (1527-1603). I find this website very interesting. Thanks for doing it

A brief addendum to my last entry having just read the history of the Caldwell name...

Thank you to whoever has written the history of the Caldwell name. In fact, the history bears closely to my own understanding and apparent DNA links.

My paternal Caldwell grandfather's family is descended from Ireland. My maternal grandmother's Stamers family is also descended from Ireland. My brother's recent DNA results showed his DNA heritage from Ireland, Scotland and the northern European countries (Norway, Denmark, Netherlands). We were curious that between all our ancestors, the DNA was not farther spread. The nordic reference in the history on this site is in fact, quite consistent with our family lore (Scotland) and the DNA results. Fascinating.

Well, who knew? What a lovely, and somewhat amusing, surprise to find myself here today. I had no idea there were so many Caldwells, so far reaching, around our globe. Our family (another John and William Caldwell) hails from Caven, County Ireland but has only been traced as far back as just prior to the 1830's and the potato famines. The sons (John, William and ?) came to Canada and settled on the Ottawa river just northwest of Ottawa in Quebec. There are lots of us now all over Ottawa, Toronto, Barrie and parts between. I've done some research on the old family history but it seems that the records from the protestant Churches around Caven were lost in various church fires. I'm curious about the various Caldwell Castles and houses (one in Ireland, one in Scotland). The first Canadian generation of our family seemed to believe they were related to a lost estate and hired a lawyer in Ireland to try and find it. No luck due to the lack of records. Meanwhile, my great uncle informed me that our Caldwell family was believed to have originated from a Scottish tribe Kadwell (Cadwell?)and changed its name upon arrival in Ireland. Lots of lovely lore; a little thin on fact. But still delighted to find you all here. Best wishes from Canada.

Hello fellow Caldwells!

My name is Kristina and I was born with the last name Larson, but later learned my dad’s biological father was Richard Lee Caldwell (1945 - 2007). Anyone on here from that line?
I’m building out my family tree, and have it down to Jacques Caulwel (1495 - 1560), born in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. Does this sound accurate? I’ve been using ancestry.

Thank you,
Kristina Wolf (Caldwell)

I have just read your entry for Hugh and Margery Scott Caldwell of Chestnut Level, Lancaster, PA and am disturbed that my ancestor, Hugh Alexander Caldwell, his wife Jane Boyd Caldwell, his son Samuel Caldwell, and his daughter Margery Caldwell, are missing or devoid of data. I am descended from both siblings.

This is Tom Caldwell in Australia. A new administrator. Just feeling my way for the moment - hoping to work out how to manage the site soon.

The site has lost its ‘old hands’ who made it very lively and useful so many years ago.

I hope to help John stimulate new contributors.

It is always better to help by contributing.

Sorry we've been remiss in maintaining the guestbook. Tom Caldwell from Australia is jumping in to help, and to keep me going with this decades-long project.

If you don't know Tom, he is a leading researcher in Caldwell beginnings. You can find some of his work in the Library section of this site.

Dear madam or sir,

Have you ever considered the name Coutwel in the Netherlands could be of the same origin? It is a very uncommon, rare surname, which was found in the province of Zeeland, at least in the 16th century. The Scotts came to Zeeland to trade those days. In Veere we have the Scottish house and there is a Dutch-Scottish society on the history.

Best regards,

I am hoping to learn more about my Scottish ancestry. My great great grandfather William James Caldwell was born 1841 in Cape Town, South Africa and he married Mary Ann Jane Baker in 1877. His parents immigrated from Renfrew Scotland to South Africa sometime between 1820 or 1840 and I wish to know more about them. William James Caldwell had 12 children. One of his sons were Lawrence Edwin Warren Caldwell (my great grandfather) and he had a son named Bert Lawrence Caldwell (my grandfather) and he then had a son which is my father Gerald Caldwell.
