Presumably wife Sarah died. Joseph moved to what is now Wyandot Co., OH then part of Seneca, Co., OH in 1827 and erected the first dwelling in the village of McCutcheonville, which he had laid out in 1829.
He was a hotel keeper and moved from McCutcheonville to Upper Sandusky in 1845 (appearantly to take advantage of its being the new county seat for McCutcheonville was a small village close to the new county line.)
The US Census of 1850 lists his occupation as merchant and his wife's name as "Lydia" (could be a 3rd wife, presumably Lydia Keys, or just a spelling of wife Lettia).
Served as Captain in the Union Army during the War Betweenthe States. Was County Auditor, a Representitive in the State Legislature, and a State Senator. Apparently had no children.
