I grew up in Butler County, Alabama in a farming community. My family came to Alabama by way of South Carolina and Virginia. I have yet to find out all the details, but there is a rich history in the vast and beautiful hills of Bragg Hills and Ridgeville, affectionately known as "The Ridge". Although I personally never lived on the Ridge, I spent a great deal of time there with my grandmother. She lived at the top of what is known as Caldwell hill, probably named after the original settlers there around 1819. What use to be a mostly white neighborhood is now mostly African American. I'm sure there is a lot to be learned about this area both good and bad, but I'm determined to find out as much as I can.
