Hello, John! I have not been on this site in years and as I see it there is still a lot of nonsense printed regarding the surname of Caldwell. I know from whence I came (Scotland to County Donegal to Pennsylvania to Virginia to Georgia to Arkansas to Texas) From my father, George, from my grandfather, John Elijah, from George W, from Matthew Tanner, from Creed, from David, from John, from John and from John in America. The research continues with my daughter now doing the research back to the William Wallace era and area. Maybe you remember when we met on this site as I don\'t. All I know is that we are related. This site has changed over the years very much and I will look around a bit.

My great grandfather\'s name was Aldwyn Reifsnyder Caldwell. He was born in 1882 in Philadelphia. HIs father was Charles Caldwell, who married Ellen Watson. I\'ve not yet been able to to trace Charles Caldwell\'s family line back in Ancestry.com. He may have been Charles A. Caldwell (From Aldwyn\'s birth certificate), Charles E Caldwell (from 1902 phone book with Ellen as widow) or Charles Edward Caldwell (from my grandmother\'s recollection). Charles Caldwell was a twin. He was supposedly a soldier. He died when Aldwyn was a young child. Photograph shows him as a man with curly hair and a swarthy complexion. Ellen Watson\'s family supposedly cut her out of their family when she married Aldwyn, but we don\'t know why. Some have wondered whether he was of Jewish descent@f0 Or did he have some African heritage@f1 Or maybe he served on the Confederate side of the Civil war@f2 We may never know, but I would greatly appreciate any information someone might have.

Grand-daughter of David Caldwell, son of Joseph (Ireland) and Mary Brown (Ireland), born 1878 Lakefield, Ontario, Canada. Family moved to Elkhorn, Manitoba, Canada. My grandfather moved to the US in 1901. Doing genealogy research and interested in finding family members.

My mother was a Caldwell and I have traced my ancestors back to Joseph Caldwell of County Donegal, Ireland. I intend to visit Ireland and explore some of the interesting possibilities I have heard about the earliest Caldwells. However, I have enjoyed learning what I have about the exploits of the Caldwell who settled in Cub Creek, Virginia and their descendants. I have found considerable information on Ancestry.Com which complements notes my mother gave me many years ago. I would appreciate information concerning other sources related to that extraordinary family.

You\'ve got some interesting info, and lots of it, if I may say. Truly grateful there are those who take the time to research and compile all of this. It\'s important to know your \'roots\'!
