To Angela Bernard and Kelli Watkins - I am the author of the Henry III article within this website. To Kelli - Joseph was the great grandson of William and Joseph is a royal descendant per my article. To Angela - There were no Richards in the Scottish monarchy, there were Roberts - Robert the Bruce, Robert II (grandson of the Bruce) and Robert III followed by the James 1-6 with Mary Stuart in there being mother of James VI. Is Elizabeth Wallace, wife of William Caldwell, related to Sir William Wallace Lord Protector of Scotland (braveheart)? Yes! Recently confirmed by the royal genealogical society\'s of both Britain and Scotland, I have the names and dates of the ancestors, it fills a full page single line spaced, 13 generations. Sir William Wallace was not of any royal descent. The daughter of Sir William Wallace and Marion Bradfute (forget what you saw in the movie), Elizabeth, married Sir William Balliol, 2nd Laird of Hoprig of which both the Balliol\'s and Bruce\'s were of direct lineage to the earlier Kings of Scotland. BUT ALSO!!! In my article you will see our direct lineage to the FitzAlan\'s of England. The ancestors of the FitzAlans include an uncle that became the first Steward to Scotland under David I who then took the surname Stewart. Robert II and all subsequent monarchs of Scotland thru James VI are Stewart\'s and are our cousins, in fact the grandmother of Robert the Bruce on his mother\'s side was also a Stewart. Going back even further, thru our grandfather Henry III of England to Henry I (England), Henry I was married to Matilda of Scotland, daughter of Malcolm III and Saint Margaret of Scotland making these monarchs our grandparents thus firmly establishing our relationship to the Scottish monarchy including the Bruce\'s and Balliol\'s. In fact, Robert I, Robert II, James I, James II, James V and James VI (who became James I of England) are what I call double cousins; we are related to both their father and mother. If you go back far enough I believe you would eventually find a double kinship to James III and IV thru our French grandfather Louis VIII. As I stated in my article, thru our grandfather Henry III and grandmother Eleanor of Provence, and (although not in the article) our grandfather (and Uncle) Edward I and grandmother Eleanor of Castile, we have direct blood relationships (meaning grandparents, aunts and uncles) to more royals, Earls, Lords, Saints, Archbishops, and even a Pope (Callixtus II) than I could begin to list here, with a half dozen separate lines back to Charlemagne. Throw in cousins and the number would be in the thousands including Presidents Washington, Polk and Taylor, Winston Churchill, the Spencer\'s (which makes the future King of England William a double cousin), the Middleton\'s (making the third generation future King George a double cousin as well). We have a very unique heritage thru the Plantagenet, FitzAlan, Capet and DeBohun families. The English marriage intertwining is sad, the French is even worse. Looking for CALDWELL family members connected to John CALDWELL b.1790 at St. Quivox and moved to Galston where he was married to Mary MORTON in 1802 and after her death then to Agnes McCLANNACHAN in 1815.

My father arrived in America from Galston Scotland. His name was William Caldwell. He changed his name when he arrived to William Caldwell Sharpe. He arrived in the late 19th century. He eventually became an auditor for the United Mine Workers. He lived in Central Illinois, Decatur and Taylorville. He also lived in Iowa.

He married Janet Patterson Greene Wilson in America. She was born in Glascow.

Just stumbled upon your site. Lovely to see more info on the family. I follow the direct US line from John Caldwell 1624-1692 (and Sarah Dillingham 1624-1722). I am in the process of slowly sifting through generations of records and artifacts and organizing all. Records include family tree info going back to the 1300-1400s in England and Scotland for some lines. Most of the Caldwell rcords and artifacts date from the 1700s and 1800s related to the Captains (Eben, Ebenezer, Eben and Albert Henry). Though I do also have the diary of Ebens daughter while crossing the Atlantic with her father on a trip to England (lovely early view of the sailing by a young woman which I am in the process of transcribing) and also John Caldwell’s cane as one of the earlier artifacts. Once done with full review will be publishing parts and then deciding where to leave the lot, as I am the end of the direct line (all will be going to a museum most likely in MA possibly in Ipswich). It will be awhile (most likely a few years) getting through all but if anyone has questions regarding lines in the US or prior, where they have missing or incomplete data feel free to send me your questions and I will keep my eyes out for such as I review. Note: I did see reference on one record of a possible early clan settlement site off of Routen Burn (water). Does anyone else have mention of this?

My grandfather was John Doke Caldwell, deceased in Cleburne, Texas in 1950. Born around 1880, possibly in Missippi? Siblings unknown.
