My grandmother is Bettie Jane Caldwell, and her mother was a Fraser. I have heard many oral histories of the Caldwell\'s through her; one being that our ancestors fled Marseille to Scotland in the 12th or 13th century, and then our Caldwell family moved again from Scotland to Ireland, from whence they came to the United States. My grandmother was raised in the mountains between North Carolina and Tennessee.

Tam O\'Shanter its a poem written by Robert Burns about a fellow, Tam, who drank with
his mates in taverns in Ayr, Scotland. There must been Caldwells among that group !

I am helping the registrar of our New York City Chapter of the DAR to complete an application for membership. The weak link seems to be the documentation between Gen 6 to Gen 7. Gen 6 is John Franklin Caldwell, the son of Levi Caldwell born 23 October 1822 at Portage Ohio who married Louisa Curtis.Gen 7 is Levi Caldwell the child of John Caldwell born 1801 at Westmoreland PA who married Barbara Simon. We also need a better image of the grave of John Thomas Caldwell Born 1774 in Westmoreland County PA and Died in 1847 in Prtage County Ohio. Thanks so much for any help.

I do not have a website. I have put my family tree in Ancestry.com and my Heritage. I also see a name who I believe to be my cousin, Plunkett Caldwell. Plunkett is her married name and Caldwell is her Mothers name as it is my mothers name also.

Hi
I am Caldwell. My grandmother is Mary Gertrude Caldwell; her father was Christopher Caldwell married Florence McJanet. They lived in Quebec then Quill Lake, Sask. I think. Christopher Caldwell\'s dad was James Caldwell. My DNA shows Irish blood. I wonder if they originated from Scotland way back. I heard from Grandmother about the caldwell castle in Ireland. I hope to go there one day! My grandmother\'s brothers all served in the war. Clarence Caldwell died in the war and is buried in Europe.

John Rogers 1825 letter states that his mother Margaret Caldwell 1st married William Rogers and after he died in October 1750 she married my ancestor James Mitchell with whom she had 5 children. The marriage to James Mitchell was probably 1751 with a first child born in 1752. If Margaret Caldwell was born in 1712, then she would have turned 45 in 1747 and would have had a significant decrease in conception due to menopause. Having 5 Mitchell children between 1752 and and 1757 calculates to a child born every 15 months.

A WikiPedia web page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_and_female_fertility ) shows the decline in female fertility over time and by age 45 it\'s down to 3%. I really question the 1712 birth year for Margaret Caldwell who married William Rogers 1st and James Mitchell 2nd.

Hello I just came across this website and wanted to leave the comment on how interesting all the information is.. I am the grandson of Donald P. Caldwell. I\'m not sure if this is the same Caldwell Family or not, but regardless to say its still an interesting read. If it is the same family I hope to hear from you and gain more information.

I dont believe I have commented here before but I will now. I see that you have failed to include the fact that David Caldwell- my 7th Great Grandfather- was a slave owner. He was a prominent man with what would have been considered wealth and like so many \"good reverends\" he used human beings to attain his riches. Why not state the facts? I am personally not proud of these grandparents of mine- David & Rachel .

My Paternal Grandmother was a Caldwell. I have done quite a lot of research and have come across several notable Caldwell\'s and their history that are not on this website. I would like to add the information. What is the process? I tried to start an acct. and login, but the link was not working. Regards
