Pre-marriage letter to EB from Lu;

Sun. p.m.

Ed Dearest:

If you will excuse the paper and scribbling I'll try to write a little bit. My finger is still pretty sore and certainly makes me unhandy - I haven't been able to do much of anything but I have to start tomorrow and further disregard the thumb I guess.

We were over at Clarence's for dinner today - next Sunday we're going to Wmma's for six o'clock dinner - and I was to bring you if you were to be here but I told them you wouldn't be here then.

Jennie wanted to know what I wanted for a wedding present - told her I didn't know & if she would tell me how much she wanted to pay for it I could come probably think of something. There are quite a number of things that we could make use of very easily. They had a good time kidding me. And if one could take them at their word we could just plan on having visitors all summer & from the on.

Just at present there are three or four people talking all trying to see which one can say the brightest thing.

Would it do just as well if I tell you about the invitations sometime in the future - my thumb is about to give out.

I don't know Bill's address so will you forward the enclosed note to him - you may read it if you wish and censor it.

I had several things I meant to write to you but my mind refuses to track with all this buzz around here.

I was real good and went to church twice today - even appeared upon the League program - I guess that's doing well, eh what@f0

Will try to strike a time to write tomorrow when I can have a little peace & quite.

Are you coming on that early morning train when you come or on the one I did@f1 The trains have been quite a bit late the last few days but may be doing better by then. Now, don't be foolish & get a room in Boone because mother is expecting you here - Is Bill coming when you do or on Thurs? I guess it won't be necessary to have any practicing before hand because he follows exactally the ceremony which is given in the book & all we'll have to do is to do what that says

Yours and all my love,
Lu

Ties. eve.

Ed Dearest:

Frances is wrapping Christmas presents and tralked me into staying up until she goes to bed. I wasn't anywhere near ready any way and she is going to trim my hair a little on the sides. I mashed it this evening and have an appointment for a [unreadable] tomorrow night after supper.

I packed a box tonight - put my raincoat & hat and a sweater in it, a pair of shoes & my shinola set but there was still some room left. I'm leaving it for the girls to send so they said I might as well leave it unwrapped & they would fill the rest up - said they would unwrap it so I might just as well not waste the energy. So it's hard to tell what we'll see when we open that box. Its apt to be most anything wild - Pauline said she was going to spend all Christmas vacation trying to think of things to put in there.

Marian Quick has broken her engagement with Carl Seashore. We don't know what happened because she's still crazy about Carl but we're glad of it because he's been two-facing her all fall. Marian's a wonderful girl and some day Carl make wake up and realize what he is losing. He has been stepping in Iowa City with some girl who is absolutely the scum of the earth.

I received a letter from Rose today & she said to give her best to Ed.

I reckon you're all moved by now. How does it seem to live in a new place? Really, I'll try my best to get all my stuff in my trunk.

Oceans of love,
Yours, Lu
